Ashley Wilson is an exciting new vocalist to emerge on the jazz scene of San Francisco. With phrasing that brings a fresh perspective to the classic standards and a bluesy tone, she performs as a soloist and with her band at venues such as Mr. Tipple's Recording Studio, PianoFight, Hornblower Cruises, City Club and more.
Growing up in a musical household in Atlanta, GA -- her mother and grandmother were classical pianists, her father a jazz-lover and pianist himself -- helped shape Ashley's love of all things artistic from a young age. She began dancing and playing the violin at the age of five and later attended an award-winning performing arts magnet high school, where she took up piano, creative writing and musical theatre. With musical taste that spanned the decades and genres, it was Carmen McRae, Nancy Wilson and Diana Krall who got her singing jazz.
After high school, Ashley decided to pursue a degree in journalism at Indiana University, ready to explore some new territory that wasn't in the arts. She moved to San Francisco and fell into an exciting career in tech marketing, helping build various companies and teams before realizing something big was missing in her life -- MUSIC. She scaled back her tech life, started studying with renowned jazz vocalist Kellye Gray and pianist Art Khu and now she's back at it -- singing her favorite known and lesser-known jazz tunes, writing tunes, playing the piano, and loving every minute of it.
